In November 2020, the business design community gathered for the first ever Rotman BDX Conference. The inaugural theme was Decoding Design for Innovation, and offered online conversations with industry leaders in the midst of organizational transformation.

Scott D. Anthony

Senior Partner, Innosight

Scott (he/him) is a Senior Partner in Innosight’s Singapore office, where he helps leaders design new growth strategies, build innovation capabilities, navigate disruptive innovation, and manage strategic transformation. Scott has written eight books, including most recently Eat, Sleep, Innovate (2020) and Dual Transformation (2017), which describe how forward-thinking organizations can navigate disruptive change and own the future. In 2019, Thinkers50 named him one of the world’s 10 most influential management thinkers. In his spare time, he is an avid reader, accomplished Whack-a-Mole player and proud father of four wonderful children. 

 

 Angèle Beausoleil, Ph.D. 

Academic Director, Rotman Business Design Initiative

Dr. Beausoleil (she/her) is Canada's first PhD to focus on innovative leadership using design processes and methods. A 'pracademic,' she has worked on corporate brands such as Starbucks, McDonalds, Sony, The Gap, and Telus, and today teaches design methodologies for business innovation while leading field research inside organizations on innovation process design, navigation and management. As Academic Director of BDI @ Rotman and a visiting lecturer of Applied Innovation at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, Dr. Beausoleil’s mission is to craft high impact teaching and student-centred learning experiences.

 

Amit Bhatia

Head of Innovation Labs (LOFT), Manulife/John Hancock

Based out of Canada, Amit (he/his) leads Manulife/John Hancock’s Innovation Labs globally with locations in Toronto, Boston, Hong Kong and Singapore. Previously, Amit built Manulife’s Global Technology Strategy team and multiple Corporate Strategy functions. A Rotman MBA graduate, he has consulted for Bain & Company, Accenture, and A.T. Kearney, where he was focused on strategy, M&A advisory, and technology strategy.  In his personal time, you can find him shooting hoops at harbour front, dancing with his wife in the kitchen, chasing his two little boys (ages 3 and 4) around the house, slacking on his P90X routines and teaching his 8 lb morkie, Mio, how to do new tricks. 

 

Amy Bucher, Ph.D. 

Vice President of Behavior Change Design, Mad*Pow 

Dr. Bucher (she/her) is Vice President of Behavior Change Design at Mad*Pow, a purpose-driven strategic design agency in Boston. She crafts engaging and motivating experiences that help people change behaviors that contribute to physical, mental, and financial health and well-being. Before joining Mad*Pow in 2016, Amy worked on behavior change products in-house at CVS Health and Johnson & Johnson. Amy received her A.B. from Harvard University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Amy is the author of Engaged: Designing for Behavior Change, published by Rosenfeld Media. 

 

Clay Chandler

Executive Editor, Asia, Fortune 

Clay (he/his) is Fortune’s Executive Editor for Asia. From his base in Hong Kong, Clay oversees Fortune’s editorial operations throughout the region, and contributes feature articles, commentary, and news analysis to the magazine and Fortune.com. He chairs Fortune’s Asia-based conferences including Brainstorm Design in Singapore, and writes the lead essay for Fortune’s weekly design newsletter, Business x Design.

 

John S. Couch

Author of The Art of Creative Rebellion & Senior Product Design Executive

John S. Couch (he/his) is an artist and designer working as an Entertainment and Technology Specialist focused on cross-platform content strategies. He is currently Vice President, Product Design for Hulu, where he lead its successful 2017 Hulu Experience redesign across mobile, living room and web platforms. He launched his design career at Wired Magazine, where he developed a love for technology, design and tech. Fluent in Japanese, he helped launch Wired Magazine Japan, then took on leadership roles at The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), CBS and eBay. Couch is the author of a new book, The Art of Creative Rebellion (2020). Couch lives with his wife and daughter in the Santa Monica Mountains, California, where he writes every morning before sunrise and paints every evening. 

 

Pamela Hilborn

Senior Vice President Global Head of Design, Scotiabank 

As SVP and leader of the Design Community of Practice at Scotia, Pamela (she/her) is charged with implementing proven practices in design strategy and service design, product design, visual design and usability to create transformative digital financial experiences for Scotiabank customers. She brings 20+ years of experience in the design of digital consumer experiences (both hardware and software). These experiences, along with her profound interest in human behaviour and culture, have allowed her to create user-friendly and engaging technology experiences enjoyed by millions of people in over 190 countries. In her spare time, Pamela enjoys taking long runs along the lake shore and practicing her interior design skills on her c.1890’s Toronto home.

 

Everton Lewis

Partner, Impact Signal

Using analytics and human-centred design techniques, Everton (he/him) helps companies create products and experiences that truly matter — for their business, employees, and customers. After completing his MBA, Everton worked for IBM Interactive and Bridgeable before launching Impact Signal, a customer experience design and customer analytics consulting firm based in Toronto. Everton is a guest lecturer at Laurier University and invited speaker at conferences. His project teams have won the Service Design Networks Global Award and Fast Company's Innovation by Design Award. Everton enjoys playing, coaching, and watching soccer.  Not satisfied with a single team to support, he has a favourite team in several leagues around the world he can cheer on. 

 

Bruce Mau

Co-Founder & CEO, Massive Change Network / Chief Design Officer, Freeman

Bruce (he/him) is a brilliantly creative optimist whose love of thorny problems led him to create a methodology for whole-system transformation. Across 30 years of design innovation, he’s collaborated with leading organizations, heads of state, renowned artists and fellow optimists. He is the author of Massive Change and MC24, and co-founder and CEO of Massive Change Network, a holistic design collective based in Chicago. He is also the Chief Design Officer for Freeman, the pioneers in live brand experience. His zest for connecting the world brings out the best in people and projects, and resonates at home, too, in the life he shares with his wife Bisi Williams and three daughters in Winnetka, Illinois.

 

Ben McCammon

Director of Service Innovation, Mackenzie Investments 

Ben (he/him) loves helping other people realize the power of design to make change happen. His first career as a designer and creative director included creating sustainability programs and marketing for Scotiabank, Home Depot, City of Toronto, and others. In 2010, he started his second career with an MDes in Strategic Foresight & Innovation, subsequently leading teams at Happen (now part of Accenture) and Bridgeable for clients in banking, pharma, grocery, and telecom. Today, he drives both continuous improvement and longer-term strategic innovation at one of Canada’s largest independent asset managers. On another lifelong learning journey as a Dad to two young kids, he’s learning the importance of listening, letting go, and being able to make rainbow-coloured, heart-shaped pancakes!

 

Amy Sullivan

Business Design Director, Fjord Accenture

Amy (she/her) leads business design for Fjord in Accenture Canada. With 20 years of experience as a digital consultant, market and experience researcher, Amy leverages design thinking for business impact. Working at the intersection of strategy and human-centered design, she is fluent in brand and customer experience strategy and skilled at illuminating critical business insights driven from diverse data. Amy has taught the rubrics of design led strategy to close to 500 people at Accenture. When she is not collaborating with clients and colleagues, you may find her exploring Lake Ontario on her paddle board.

 

Hyo Yeon

Partner, McKinsey Design

As a leader of McKinsey Design, Hyo (she/her) oversees its experience-design capabilities, continues to build its global design teams, and works with clients to address customer-experience challenges and establish and grow their design organization and capabilities. She brings deep expertise in leading digital-transformation programs that center on the customers and users, and deliver measurable impact.
